I am unable to get a BT connection with my Nexstar. I am using the Aircable RS232 Adapter, connected to the base of the handcontroller. The Aircable seems to be connecting to my pocket pc because I do get a solid blue light. When I try to connect I get the message 'Telescope nIot available. have tried it with and with out a null modem adapter. What am I doing wrong?
Mike

Hi Mike,

Let's go in steps.

1 - Go to Telescope/Telescope Setup Menu
2 - In Driver combobox select Celestron
3 - Press Serial Port Setup button
4 - A new dialog will appear. Go to "Comm Setup" tab
5 - Select COMM Port (Normallt 7 or 8 for BT, depending if it is slave or master and the PDA model). Select speed (normaly 9600)
6 - Close this dialog and you are back to telescope setup
7 - Close Telescope Setup dialog
8 - Close Tachyon
9 - Make your BT connection
10 - Load Tachyon again
11 - If not connected try to press the red ball in the screen

Let me know what happens.

You can check communications by looking at telescope.log in Config folder

Regards,

Mike,
One more thing, make sure the AirCable is plugged tightly into the serial cable of the Nextstar. I have one Aircable that need a little force to make a good serial connection.

I tried what you suggested but have the same results. I get a steady blue light on the aircable but not telescope connect. The main reason I wanted this software was for this feature.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Mike

Hi Mike,

Don't worry about this. It will work. We need only to verify what is happening.

In your PDA there is a folder inside Tachyon's folder called "Config". Inside this "Config folder" you will see a file called telescope.log. This file logs every communication between the PDA and the telescope.
Please copy this file to the next message you will send here. That way I can see if you have a communication problem or if Tachyon is having some difficulty in identifying your telescope.

If you see that telescope log file has only the messages sent by Tachyon and not the answers from telescope you have a comm problem, If not Tachyon may have some difficulty in checking the telescope.

FIRST CASE - COMM SETUP
---------------------------------------
If the first case is true we can go also, step by step, as I have here an Aircable and we can test any configuration.

Have you configured Aircable using a terminal in Windows ?

SECOND CASE - TACHYON NOT DETECTING TELESCOPE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the second case we can fix any bug and solve this problem.

Another test that can be done is to use a PC with BT connection and try to connect TachyonPC (ASCOM) with the telescope. That way we can be sure that the problem is not in Aircable side.

From what you have mentioned before it seems that Aircable is OK, as the blue light is steady. Remains two possibilities : any comm misconfiguration or Tachyon is not detecting your GPS correctly. We have tested with ASGT mounts and its OK. As the driver is almost the same the only problem we can imagine is in detection and we can check this with telescope.log file.

Regards,

Mike,
Double check that the HardWare handshake is turned off on the Aircable. Of the 4 small switches on the Aircable the HW handshake is to one on the right, it should be down. The overall switch configuration should be two left switches up and right 2 switches down for 9600 no HW handshake. Like Paulo says, it will work.

Do I need a null modem Adapter between the Aircable and the Nexstar Hand controler port?

Hi Mike,

If you have a male aircable and a female Nexstar cable then it is not necessary any null-modem or genre changer adaptor.

Sorry about the questions to foillow but I do not have information about your experience with these things. Let me know if you are a experienced user or not as to do not ask you to do some things.

Have you checked telescope.log file in Config folder ?

I am here next hours. We can test and advance a lot if you want.

Regards,

I have been able to connect to and control the scope using PC Tachyon using a strait serial connection. I do not have a BT adapter for the laptop. I did configure the aircable with the laptop to slave mode, but I will recheck it. Do I want Hardware handshake on or off?

Hi Mike,

Hardware handshake is OFF. From the log I've checked that it seems that Tachyon is sending commands but Nexstar is not answering. This means two things : Serial is not OK or COMM setup is wrong.

Send me emails directly to paulo.cacella@tachyonweb.net . May be that way is faster to exchange info.

Regards,

To close this thread, Mike reported that Aircable had not worked with NextStar 11GPS both, in PDA and in PC.
