Originally manufactured in 1884 in . 450 577 caliber as an artillery carbine this example was converted to . 303 caliber and shipped to Egypt for colonial service in 1906. It was put into use at the great CITADEL armory of Cairo. Receiver plate is nicely marked: Enfield 1884 MkIII "III" indicates that this rifle started life as a Mark III. On the opposite side off the
