Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, Silver Merit Medal Republic of Drinking Cup/Shooting Award(Deutsche Verdienstmedaille in Silber). Instituted 1 May 1937. (1943 1945 issue). Constructed of silvered zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Maltese Cross which is joined through the quadrants by NSDAP style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas, the reverse bearing an inscription of DEUTSCHE VERDIENST MEDAILLE (GERMAN MERIT MEDAL) in block text, unmarked, measuring 38. 70 mm
