Constructed of silvered bronze with multi coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, presenting as a Maltese Cross with obverse central medallion depicting raised monogram of King Ludwig on a black enamel background within a white enamel ring bearing motto of MERENTI (For Merit), reverse presents silvered central medallion depicting lion rampant within a silvered ring bearing raised
