From: "Paulo Cacella" Subject: Possible Supernova in NGC 3190 Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 23:22:57 -0300 Image taken now at 02 UT 03/09/2002 show a possible supernova in nearby galaxy NGC 3190 at 17/18th magnitude. No star in DSS Aladin images. Please check SCT 10" HX516 See image at http://users.linkexpress.com.br/cacella/index_i.htm Paulo Cacella Re: (fwd) Possible Supernova in NGC 3190 (Paulo Cacella) No known minor planet seems to be present at this position. Further check with a large instrument will be required. The object in Paulo's image looks suspiciously elongated as though it were an artifact in the CCD (directly along a column/row). The Minor Planet Center's 'MPchecker' shows no asteroids with orbits in the vicinity. (http://scully.harvard.edu/~cgi/CheckMP) \Brian The suspect is a SN ... I just imaged it and it is still there. I will send in a report real soon. Cheers, Weidong > The suspect is a SN ... I just imaged it and it is still there. NGC 3190 seems to be as near as the Virgo cluster, so it can reach mag 12 or so if it is an unreddened SN Ia. The object is, however, nearly superimposed on the dark lane.
